With the election coming close, many already decided citizens are just waiting for their opportunity to vote. Fortunately, 40 states (plus District of Columbia) allow some form of voting before the election on November 3rd.

Each state has its own rules, deadlines and terminology for voting before the general election. Some call it "early voting" or "in-person absentee". Others are mailing out ballots in advance which you can mail back or drop off in secure boxes or at county offices. Some states conclude early voting several days before the election.

Can you early vote in person?

  • Colorado is a mail voting state, but voters can also vote early in person if they like. Colorado is encouraging voters to vote by mail if at all possible!

Can you early vote by mail?

  • All Colorado elections are held by mail.
  • You can still request a one-time absentee ballot if you will be away from home during a specific election.

Colorado voters must provide their Colorado driver's license number, state ID number, or the last four digits of their social security number with their voter registration application.

How do I make sure I'm registered to vote?

To register in Colorado you must:

  • be a citizen of the United States;
  • be a resident of Colorado 22 days prior to Election Day;
  • be at least 18 years old by Election Day (you may pre-register if you are at least 16). If you are 17, you may vote in a primary if you will turn 18 by the general election; and
  • not be currently incarcerated after being convicted and sentenced for a felony
