Real help for rural Indiana Parts of rural America have been left behind by the federal government. Indiana must do its part to fix it. Dead cell zones are a threat to public safety -- a mother in an accident with a carful of kids and no way to call an ambulance -- an elderly citizen stuck in a snowstorm with no way to summon help. Everybody should be able to make a phone call no matter where they are in rural Indiana. Slow-poke broadband is an economic threat to our small towns and rural communities. Every business owner and homeowner should have access to high-speed broadband at an affordable price. It is a legitimate role of State government to help make that happen. There is no excuse for dangerous narrow roads, unsafe bridges, and potholes on highways. In order to attract good companies that pay good wages, we need a modern and safe transportation network. We must ensure that our farmers can quickly move grain and livestock from farm to buyer. Rural development programs must be fully funded to help attract industries that provide good jobs, good wages, alleviate housing shortages, and ensure that our citizens have access to good doctors and medical facilities.
