Get StartedThis amendment would update the plan of succession so that if the lieutenant governor assumed the office of governor, they would have the authority to appoint a new lieutenant governor, which they currently do not have.
A "yes" vote means the constitution would be amended to update the plan of succession, allowing the Lt. Governor to appoint a new Lt. Governor in the event that the Governor vacates their office.
A "no" vote means the constitution would not be amended to update the plan of succession, and the Lt. Governor would not be able to appoint a new Lt. Governor in the event that the Governor vacates their office.

"I think it's important for good government that we have absolute clarity on the line of succession here in Iowa." - Adam Gregg Lt. Governor, in support of Amendment 2 (Learn more)
"My concern is the lack of oversight from the legislature on who would be chosen for this position. Adam Zabner (D), in opposition to Amendment 2 (Learn more)
