Get StartedShall Arapahoe County taxes be increased $46 million in 2020 and by such amount as may be collected annually thereafter by increasing its property tax levy not to exceed 3.4 mills, provided that beginning in tax collection year 2052 the increase shall be reduced to a maximum of 2.3 mills, and provided further that revenues from the additional mills shall be expended for the following public safety purposes, with such expenditures being monitored and reviewed by a citizen advisory committee appointed by the board of county commissioners: Delivering vital programs that address mental health and substance abuse for persons within the criminal justice system; and providing alternative sentencing and pre-trial programs essential to keeping nonviolent and first time offenders out of jail; and constructing, maintaining, and operating a new jail and related facilities to improve deputy safety, eliminate significant overcrowding, provide space for needed programs, and replace deteriorating facilities; and expanding and operating programs to reduce the likelihood of reoffending once inmates are released into the community; and other necessary expenses for operations, supplies, equipment, and capital expenditures relating to public safety and the criminal justice system; and shall Arapahoe County be authorized to receive, retain and spend all revenues derived from the increase in the mill levy (such increase being in addition to any other levy allowed under the law), any related specific ownership taxes, and the earnings from the investment of such tax revenues, as a voter approved revenue change and exception to any spending or revenue restrictions or other limits contained within Article X, Section 20 of the Colorado Constitution, C.R.S. Section 29-1-301, or any other law?
