Get StartedWHEREAS, on August 18, 2022, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Shawnee, Kansas held a public hearing to consider and hear public comment on the submission of a ballot question to be presented to the electors of Shawnee County at the November 8, 2022 general election to authorize the imposition of a sales tax on all retail sales made within Shawnee County for the sole purpose of funding the acquisition, construction, improvement, equipping, operation, support, maintenance and development of the eligible recreational facilities within the county and the creation of the Gage Park Improvement Authority to administer the proceeds of the sales tax for such purposes; and WHEREAS, at the conclusion of the public hearing, the Board of County Commissioners determined that the interests of the people of Shawnee County will be advanced by the creation of the Gage Park Improvement Authority and the imposition of the sales tax. NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Shawnee, Kansas, meeting in regular session on this 18th day of August, 2022, does hereby resolve as follows: 1. The Board of County Commissioners of the County of Shawnee, Kansas hereby adopts the following question to be placed on the November 8, 2022 General Election ballot: Shall the following be adopted: Shall a Gage Park Improvement Authority be created and supported through the levy of a 0.2% countywide sales tax to benefit Gage Park, the Topeka Zoo and Kansas Children's Discovery Center? 2. The Shawnee County Clerk and Shawnee County Information Technology Department shall cause notice of such election to be published on the county website and at least once per week for two consecutive weeks in the official county newspaper.
