Get StartedThis measure would amend the City Charter. In 2024, the City of Toledo conducted the first comprehensive review and update to Toledo's City Charter since it was adopted in 1993. The City convened a community-led process to review the Charter and develop recommendations. Since March 2024, the 7-person Charter Review Committee studied city charters from around the state, state and local laws, and other resources to propose changes for Toledo's City Charter. The committee ultimately proposed a revised Charter. Key proposed changes include: - Creates position numbers for city councilor positions, rather than electing councilors at-large, allowing persons to choose to run against a particular person. - Allows stipends for service on city council if show up to public meetings, encouraging additional persons to participate in public service. - Simplifies process for adoption of ordinances. - Clearly identifies administrative, legislative and quasi-judicial actions of council. - Other changes would include deferring to state law on areas such as public meetings and elections. - The new charter would keep Toledo's same form of government. - This measure would not increase Toledo's tax rate.
Shall Toledo adopt a new City Charter that retains current form of government, adds position numbers, and adds stipends?
