"Measure RC is poorly written; paid for by outside special interests, and could take millions from Burbank’s budget to build a bureaucracy without oversight or accountability. It reflects a lack of understanding of our Burbank community, our affordable housing needs, the needs of our tenants and the vulnerability of our Mom-and-Pop landlords. Burbank deserves better.", in opposition to Measure RC (Learn more)
"Programs in comparable cities indicate this Measure may cost Burbank as much as $6,000,000 with 24 staff. This bureaucracy will have access to your tax dollars without answering to anyone, taking money from existing Burbank services and programs for residents, families, and seniors.", in opposition to Measure RC (Learn more)
"This Measure would discourage development of desperately needed affordable housing and place additional burdens on our long-term Mom-and-Pop owners and residents. Proponents could have proposed Charter amendments but didn't. Their refusal to work within the Charter (our community constitution) should raise serious questions for everyone. Far from being local, this measure was financed by organizations from Sacramento, Bay Area, and Los Angeles. Decisions affecting Burbank should be made in Burbank not by Outsiders. Burbank is already protected by Statewide rent control. And unaccountable commission using our tax dollars or upon its own agenda is bad government. This measure is potentially devastating for Burbank.", in opposition to Measure RC (Learn more)
"I am the strongest supporter of affordable housing there is. I have been a proponent since moving my family to Burbank over a decade ago. And amidst this pandemic, we need it now more than ever. But the proposed rent control ballot initiative (Ballot Measure RC) is bad news for renters and for Burbank. Outside interest groups are pushing this initiative, which seeks to tear apart our City government by creating an unaccountable rent control board. This rent control board would not answer to our City Council or our City Manager and has the power to tax and prosecute our residents. We need affordable housing, but this measure is corrupt and deficient.", in opposition to Measure RC (Learn more)
"Vote YES on Measure RC to protect Burbank from the biggest threat facing our community: skyrocketing rent and eviction. Hard-working families are losing their homes. Valued teachers, healthcare workers, airport employees, and media professionals flee Burbank as rents become unaffordable. To landlords who keep rents, reasonable, thank you! In this time of global pandemic, Measure RC represents our hard-working families; last hope to remain housed in our community. With homelessness on the rise, we must take action." , in support of Measure RC (Learn more)
"Burbank tenants deserve to live in a stable and healthy community, free from the fear of eviction motivated by a rental property owner’s desire to dramatically increase rents in a hot housing market. Burbank has a shortage of decent, safe, affordable, and sanitary housing, resulting in an increasingly overpriced city that is pushing out valuable, long-term residents. As a result, freedom of contract and tenants’ ability to bargain in the setting of rents have become illusory.", in support of Measure RC (Learn more)
