Summary

Election to authorize additional levies for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2019, and July 1, 2020, in the total amount of $312,296.11, annually, for the purpose of paying the general current expenses of The Board of Education of the County of Calhoun, for the following purposes: PURPOSE FOR WHICH ADDITIONAL FUNDS ARE NEEDED STUDENTS To provide funds for our students to have experiences outside the classroom, build background knowledge, explore and expand their personal interest, as well as increase their participation in extra-curricular activities. These are opportunities that we cannot provide without additional funds. They are; Grade Level Field Trips, One additional teacher to allow 5th grade students to move back to elementary schools, increase and improve technology, funding for student organizations/academic awards/fairs/student organization dues/ skills USA/ diplomas, additional classroom supply money, exercise equipment, and after-school band, sports, and student activity buses. $175,000 FAMILY and COMMUNITY To provide funds for all sports pass for community members, this pass can be used at all regular season home sporting events, community dinners at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter in our schools with parents, two community block parties to provide school supplies, hats/gloves, open gyms to allow the community to use the gyms, World Changers expand the backpack to include personal hygiene products and have a selection available at schools for students to access, Fall/Spring cleanup and decorating at the schools. $62,296.11 FACILITIES and MAINTENANCE To provide funds to repair and maintain all school facilities and parking lots, sidewalks, to purchase necessary custodial supplies and equipment, to defray utility costs, and to continue existing maintenance contracts of equipment. To further make school improvement not funded by the School Building Authority (SBA), school specific improvements such as cafeteria improvement, ball fields, classroom furniture, auditorium, gym lights, to name a few. $75,000.00 TOTAL $312,296.11 The Board of Education of the County of Calhoun is hereby authorized, empowered and obligated to expend, during the term of this levy, the surplus, if any, accruing in excess of the above amounts needed for any of the above-stated purposes, plus excess collections due to increased assessed valuations for the provision of student instructional supplies, materials, equipment and facility improvements or an per school/per student basis, to be allocated at the end of each fiscal year. The Board of Education of the County of Calhoun reserves unto itself as the levying body the right and authority to reduce the rates of the excess levy, should increased assessments produce funds beyond projected needs in any year specified in the levy call in accordance with section six-g, chapter eleven, of the West Virginia Code. In the event The Board of Education of the County of Calhoun shall obtain additional money, by grant or otherwise, from the state or federal government, or from any agency of either, or from any other source, for the purposes aforesaid, such additional money may be used either in substitution for, or in addition to, the sums obtained from such additional levies as said The Board of Education of the County of Calhoun from time to time determine. The additional levies, per each one hundred dollars in value, shall be on Class 1 property, 4.97¢, on Class II property, 9.94¢, on Class III property, 19.88¢, and, on Class IV property, 19.88¢.
