Pickens County Ballot Question -

Shall a special one percent sales and use tax be imposed in Pickens County (such tax is a continuation of the existing one percent sales and use tax and is not an additional sales and use tax) for a period of time not to exceed 20 calendar quarters, commencing upon the expiration of the existing special one percent sales and use tax (which the voters of Pickens County approved in a referendum held on November 3, 2015), to raise not more than $35,000,000.00 for the purposes of funding (i) the acquisition and installation of new technology and equipment for all educational facilities; (ii) the acquisition of new school buses, vehicles, and transportation equipment including but not limited to modifications to existing school buses; (iii) the acquisition, construction, and equipping of classroom additions, physical educational facilities, athletic facilities, cafeteria, lunchroom, and kitchen facilities, Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) facilities, and renovations and modifications to existing educational facilities system wide, including but not limited to the following: (a)(1) the construction and equipping of additional classroom space and related facilities on the campus of Tate Elementary School; (2) the renovation, repair, construction, modification, and equipping of buildings and facilities located on the campus of Tate Elementary School; (b)(1) the construction and equipping of additional classroom space and related facilities on the campus of Pickens Junior High School; (2) the renovation, repair, construction, modification, and equipping of buildings and facilities located on the campus of Pickens Junior High School; (c)(1) the construction and equipping of additional classroom space and related facilities on the campus of Jasper Middle School; (2) the renovation, repair, construction, modification, and equipping of buildings and facilities located on the campus of Jasper Middle School; (d)(1) the construction and equipping of additional classroom space and related facilities on the campus of Hill City Elementary School; (2) the renovation, repair, construction, modification, and equipping of buildings and facilities located on the campus of Hill City Elementary School; (e)(1) the construction and equipping of additional classroom space and related facilities on the campus of Harmony Elementary School; (2) the renovation, repair, construction, modification, and equipping of buildings and facilities located on the campus of Harmony Elementary School; (f)(1) the construction and equipping of additional classroom space and related facilities on the campus of Pickens High School; (2) the renovation, repair, construction, modification, and equipping of buildings and facilities located on the campus of Pickens High School; (iv) the acquisition and purchase of real estate; (v) the preparation, acquisition, and payment of engineering plans, specifications, and other preliminary construction costs associated with the building of a new school facility. If imposition of the tax is approved by the voters, such vote shall also constitute approval of the issuance of general obligation debt of Pickens County School District in the principal amount of $12,000,000.00 to be first paid from the sales and use tax for the above described capital outlay projects.
