Get StartedThe Town of Gilbert's General Plan is the Community's long-range guide for future physical, economic and social development decisions over the next 20+ years. The General Plan contains a vision statement, along with maps, goals, policies and implementation strategies that address issues such as growth, housing, economic development, transportation, environment, parks and open space, community design, and preservation and conservation...State law mandates that each city and town in Arizona adopt a “comprehensive, long-range general plan for the development of the municipality.” These plans must also be updated and adopted by voters every ten years. The Town of Gilbert's current General Plan was last ratified by voters in May of 2011.
A "YES" vote on Proposition 430 is a vote to approve the 2020 Gilbert General Plan.
A "NO" vote on Proposition 430 is a vote to reject the 2020 Gilbert General Plan and retain the 2010 General Plan.
"This plan is meant to build on the previous General Plan from 2012; it will not represent a change of course... It's not like there was a huge change in direction or content of those policies," Gilbert Principal Planner Catherine Lorbeer said. "We really took what there was and just tried to make it more usable. We didn't introduce any new themes or concepts. Proposal to the voters for ratification of the 2020 Gilbert General Plan, as adopted by the Town Council on February 4, 2020, Resolution No. 4114. The 2020 Gilbert General Plan is a statement of land development policies that sets forth objectives, principles and standards for growth and redevelopment. A “YES” vote shall have the effect of approving the 2020 Gilbert General Plan. A “NO” vote shall have the effect of not approving the 2020 Gilbert General Plan and retaining the General Plan 2010.
