Get StartedShall Article III, Section 1 (General Election) be amended as follows: The regular election of Mayor and Councilpersons whose terms are expiring shall be held biennially on a uniform election date provided by State law. The consecutive uniform election dates of 2013 and 2015 shall be suspended in order to adjust the length of the terms to facilitate the conduct of biennial elections in even-numbered years. All elections shall be by nonpartisan ballot. In every such election each qualified voter shall vote for not more than one (1) candidate for each Council place to be filled and for Mayor if his/her term shall expire. Said election shall be ordered by the Council, and in case of its failure to order the same, the Mayor of the City shall make such order. In the case of the inability of the Council and the Mayor to act, the election may be called by the City Secretary, and in case of his/her inability to act, by the County Judge of Galveston County, Texas, and in case of his/her inability to act, by the Governor of the State of Texas. The City Secretary shall give notice of such election by causing said notice to be published at least forty-five (45) days previous to the day of such election in the official newspaper of the City and posted at the City Hall of League City and at two (2) other public places within the corporate limits of the City. This Section shall supercede any conflicting section in the City Charter.
