For 15 years I worked directly with local businesses to find fair employment for people with disabilities. As a stage manager, I auditioned actors and supervised a cast and crew of diverse people. I understand what it means to cut a paycheck and to help others earn one as well. We need to keep students safe and show educators the respect they deserve. We need to show the world that all are welcome in North Carolina, and that our state is open for business. We need to protect our natural resources, from the mountains to the coast, and right here in District 11, while working to correct the problems that have resulted from poor decision of the past. We need equitable funding for our public schools so every child gets a sound, basic education and teachers earn a middle-class living.I believe that all of our students from kindergarten through graduate school deserve the best education we can provide. The history of our great state was built on the foundation that education is a right to every person in North Carolina. Our forefathers thought education was so important that they put it in Article 1 in our state’s constitution, which reads, ''The people have a right to the privilege of education, and it is the duty of the State to guard and maintain that right.'' Healthcare

When I am elected, I will push for North Carolina to expand Medicaid by accepting the federal money which has already been set aside for our state. I also believe that Planned Parenthood should be fully funded to provide for the low-income and marginalized women of our state. Too many individuals and families are at risk without this funding, and I will work to correct that, as well as work for more affordable healthcare across the state. Learn more

Infrastructure / Transportation

Here in Raleigh and Cary, we are fortunate to live in one of the most prosperous areas in the nation, but a rising tide doesn’t always lift all boats. As our community continues to grow, our need for a high-quality, public transportation system is clear. That is why I support a light-rail plan between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. By linking the Triangle’s major population centers to the region’s businesses and universities, we can expand economic justice by improving access to transit and connecting our rich and diverse neighborhoods with hubs of commerce and innovation. Anyone who works full-time should be able to support themselves and their family.
