I will fight for a full repeal of HB2. Last year, the General Assembly sold North Carolinians a bill of goods, undercutting basic human rights and protections for workers in exchange for a sports games. While this compromise may have been palatable to Raleigh insiders and corporate interests, we won’t be fooled. If we truly want to lead the region as a magnet for talent, business, and culture we must repeal HB2 and enshrine public accommodations and civil rights protections for LGBTQ people into state law. We need an economy that promotes sustainable development and jobs that provide a living wage. For 15 years I worked directly with local businesses to find fair employment for people with disabilities. As a stage manager, I auditioned actors and supervised a cast and crew of diverse people. I understand what it means to cut a paycheck and to help others earn one as well. As your state representative in the General Assembly, I want to expand opportunity for all job-seekers and for businesses who rely on the Triangle’s immense and diverse talent pool to meet their needs. We need equitable funding for our public schools so every child gets a sound, basic education and teachers earn a middle-class living.I believe that all of our students from kindergarten through graduate school deserve the best education we can provide. The history of our great state was built on the foundation that education is a right to every person in North Carolina. Our forefathers thought education was so important that they put it in Article 1 in our state’s constitution, which reads, ''The people have a right to the privilege of education, and it is the duty of the State to guard and maintain that right.'' I will uphold that duty when I am elected. Learn more

As a lifelong environmentalist and native North Carolinian, I strongly believe that North Carolina's natural resources belong to all of us. As a gun owner, I will uphold the Constitution, including the Second Amendment. I understand that we can respect an individual’s right to bear arms while enacting policies to protect our children and promote public safety. As your state representative, I will work to: Learn more
When I am elected, I will push for North Carolina to expand Medicaid by accepting the federal money which has already been set aside for our state. I also believe that Planned Parenthood should be fully funded to provide for the low-income and marginalized women of our state. Too many individuals and families are at risk without this funding, and I will work to correct that, as well as work for more affordable healthcare across the state. Learn more
Fight for and defend a woman’s right to access a full range of reproductive healthcare services, including abortions Learn more
Here in Raleigh and Cary, we are fortunate to live in one of the most prosperous areas in the nation, but a rising tide doesn’t always lift all boats. As our community continues to grow, our need for a high-quality, public transportation system is clear. That is why I support a light-rail plan between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. By linking the Triangle’s major population centers to the region’s businesses and universities, we can expand economic justice by improving access to transit and connecting our rich and diverse neighborhoods with hubs of commerce and innovation. Anyone who works full-time should be able to support themselves and their family. That is why I support raising North Carolina's minimum wage to 15 per hour, indexing it to inflation, and repealing HB 142 to allow local governments to further raise pay and protect workers. Make no mistake: HB2 caused immense damage to our economy and our reputation as a welcoming state. Whether this ''Bathroom Bill'' cost our state economy 400 million (Business Insider 2016) or closer to 4 billion (3.76 billion of known public loss projections by AP analysis 2017) the fact is: it cost us.
