Civil Rights

I will support every effort I can to end discrimination against people of color in commerce and in law enforcement. No one in our community should feel unsafe because of who they are or what they look like. Learn more

Education

I support the Governor in her vision of universal pre-k. Every parent and child should have the option for a developmentally appropriate, early start to education. Learn more

Repeal the 3rd Grade Reading Rule Punishing students (and in turn their schools) for failing to live up to an arbitrary benchmark is unacceptable. I support the necessity of fostering key reading skills at a young age, but having a policy that can grow class sizes for already overworked teachers doesn't help anyone. Learn more

Free Higher Education I will support making the first two years of higher education available for free to every resident of Michigan. Learn more

I believe that we should attract bright young people to our communities by providing student loan relief for those who commit to living and working in our communities. Learn more

Environment / Energy

We need to adapt to as much solar and wind as possible in our communities, and other solutions such as hydroelectric where appropriate. Energy efficient technology is a must as well, and we must guarantee there is special priority for the development and use of it in our communities to keep us healthy in the long run. Learn more

I support the notion of the public trust doctrine, that the waterways of the great lakes watershed should be held in common, and democratically managed for all. Only with this public trust doctrine can we prevent further environmental and economic disaster. Learn more

Healthcare

Synchronizing Public Insurance: I support the consolidation of many of the health insurance options available to Michiganders to make for a more streamlined, cost efficient system. Learn more

Michigan Republicans were pushing to force work requirements on recipients of Medicaid. This would have been disastrous for the most vulnerable in our communities. I promise to protect Medicaid (and Medicare) for every Michigander in our state legislature. Learn more

I will push for the expansion of options for referral to free and low cost mental health coverage for those dealing with the various public institutions of Michigan. Learn more

I will work to expand partnership and coordination between the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the various community health institutions, from county health departments to federally recognized community health centers. We must identify common public health trends throughout the state, and help guide the response of various levels of governance to end health risks and promote existing good habits. Learn more

Housing

I fully support the notion of the homes guarantee. No one should worry about whether they have a roof over their head. Learn more

Infrastructure / Transportation

High Speed Internet for All. Internet access for all is the 21st century equivalent to every town needing a post office. I support the state developing a public high speed internet corporation that can keep costs low and make internet universally accessible. Learn more

I support the founding of an infrastructure development bank to facilitate the funding of repair of roads. Learn more

Public Transit I believe the state needs to coordinate the development of a high speed, across-the-state public rail system. It also needs to support last-mile public transit through low-emission public buses. Learn more

Wages / Job Benefits

We need to have competitive wages and benefits for Michigan teachers to attract the best and brightest applicants. Learn more

I will fight to fight to end the wage gap in support of legislating fair pay. Learn more

I will fight to repeal anti-union legislation in Lansing, such as the so-call “right-to-work” bill. I will support all efforts I can to expand the power of collective bargaining, and the protection of workers. Learn more
