Get StartedFinally, abortion is an emotional, often personal, and hugely divisive issue, and I am convinced that the Republican and Democrat parties use it to gain and maintain power and influence over their base voters by inciting fear, angst, and hatred in their supporters. That is why I would suggest that laws related to abortion be taken away from partisan politicians and given to voters to be decided instead. Learn more
I am pro-life, but I understand and agree with the principal that government should not be involved in personal and private health-care decisions. However, abortion is unique in medical care in that it involves the intentional termination of an innocent human life Learn more
Further, our nation was born on the concept of the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and I believe the right to life extends to the defenseless unborn. I also believe that the issue of abortion is left to each state to regulate or not regulate under the Tenth Amendment, and that parents do not have an inherent right to terminate the life of their unborn children. Additionally, I believe that kids who are in foster care (by no fault of their own) deserve the same educational attention as children who are not in foster care, and kids in residential, group, or behavioral health settings deserve added attention and oversight to their educational needs. It is important that we make decisions in the legislature that are fair, fiscally responsible and empower today’s parents to provide an education that will benefit their children for a lifetime. First and foremost, parents have a right and a responsibility to oversee their children’s education, including the choice of where their child attends school. Parents do not lose their right or responsibility because their child is enrolled in a public school and should remain engaged and informed at every stage of their child’s education. Further, parents should be free to decide between public, private, home, and online schools, and those who decide to place their kids in private schools shouldn’t be taxed on those costs. Learn more
Every child deserves an individualized education, tailored to his or her age and ability. Children don’t have to be taught the same educational format, simply because they are the same age. Teachers and schools should to have the flexibility, support, and access to resources needed to teach each child as individually as possible. Learn more
Finally, I do not believe that guns are the cause of violence, nor that further restrictions on or the prohibition of guns will end gun violence. The problem is a lack of respect for others, a lack of adequate mental health resources, and the simple fact that there are people who simply want to hurt others. Taking guns away from law-abiding citizens will not protect them from the criminals who would do them harm. Learn more
I also believe that the right to keep and bear arms comes with the responsibility to do so without infringing the rights of others, including the rights of private property owners to allow, prohibit, or regulate the carrying of weapons on their private property. Learn more
I support gun rights because I believe the right to defend yourself, your family, and your property is one of the inalienable rights that our founders recognized. It was not created by the Second Amendment, rather recognized as vital to a free society. Like the rights of religion, speech, redress, and assembly, the right to keep and bear arms for self and common defense is beyond the reach of government control and prohibition. Learn more
Additionally, I will fight government growth by seeking ways to cut unnecessary spending where possible, making sure spending decisions are transparent and public, and returning the spending power to the Legislature where members are more accountable for their decisions in their local communities. By controlling spending we reduce the need to tax, and by controlling taxes we support and encourage Arkansas families, small farms, small businesses, and small towns. Learn more
I’m for lower taxes, and reduced government spending. Like most of us, I dislike paying taxes, but I understand the unfortunate necessity of funding legitimate government functions. However, I also believe that cutting taxes while increasing spending will eventually lead to raising taxes and/or creating new taxes. Learn more
This year and next, Arkansas lawmakers will be talking about the sales tax on internet purchases. Some politicians will probably try to spin this as simply the application of current taxes to online purchases, which they will say is common sense. They will likely not call it and new tax on Arkansans, when it really is. Learn more
If elected, I will work against policies that I believe will lead to future tax increases or the creation of new taxes. I will work to reduce the tax burden on small farms and small businesses, and help hard working Arkansans keep more of their money. My priorities will include looking for ways to reduce or replace our property tax system, keeping income taxes on working families low, and making sure that sales taxes don’t hurt small businesses.
