I will also support stronger enforcement against illegal vacation rental operators, who cheat the state and taxpayers while negatively impacting our communities Protecting Local Communities. Alue-Added Products. I will work to establish a "value-added" product facility in Maui that will help local farmers and manufacturers grow their business and create jobs Food Deserts. I will work to ensure that rural and low-income communities have access to fresh produce and food by partnering with the farming community and other producers to create farm-to-table programs in targeted areas. Diversifying Economy. I will sponsor legislation that will strengthen Hawaiiʻs food security, stimulate high-tech and high-skill job creation, and work with our partners in our public schools and the University of Hawaiʻi to strengthen the pipeline of graduates of math, science, and engineering Destination Management. Hawaiian Immersion & Charter Schools. I support the expansion of immersion and charter schools, especially in rural communities. Perpetuating Hawaiian language is essential to preserving the history and culture of these lands Rural Broadband. Distance learning in our schools during the pandemic demonstrated the importance of improving access to technology for our keiki. Vocational Training. Non-traditional trades and education are also important to the economic future of our state. I will sponsor legislation that will push our capacity to produce and maintain clean energy, reduce the use of single-use plastics, and empower communities to lead a sustainable future Ocean & Marine Life. Watershed Protection. Hawaiiʻs watersheds continue to be a vital part of our island ecosystem and must be protected.
