Get StartedWhat will quality education look like moving out of a pandemic? How will our children safely access what they need to flourish and thrive in their educational process. Schools are overcrowded, teachers are looking to bordering states for better pay. The educational structure as a whole is lacking the overall support it needs to meet the educational vigor, emotional health and practical needs of students, teachers and staff. While districts across the state are preparing for more cuts to meet the $99 million decrease in funding Gov.Little is proposing, our students and communities will continue to be hurt. If the legislature ensured growth was paying for growth, everyone paid their fair share and education was adequately funded, property tax levies and bonds would not be needed to keep our educational institutional doors open and in operation. Development is inevitable when you live in a state as beautiful as Idaho. But we must practice smart growth. It is crucial that we maintain the integrity of our farmland while also striving to be a welcoming place for families and folks to contribute to our communities. It is worth exploring bi-partisan ideas to incentivize farmers who are ready to retire from the industry and preserve those lands for future agricultural use. Learn more
The current Legislation talks about local control for cities and counties yet creates mandates that shift the burden of funding to those local agencies without revenue options. As a result, local communities are outraged in the increase of property taxes. Local municipalities should be allowed to implement a local option tax if they choose to do so, and not have their hands tied by a state government that doesn’t fund their constitutional responsibilities. Idaho has taken great pride in running the state on an incredibly lean budget. Tax relief should look like restoring the homeowners exemption and combating skyrocketing property taxes. We need to evaluate and update the state’s circuit breaker property tax relief program for seniors, those with disabilities and our veterans thoughtfully, keeping it aligned with the current inflation. Impact fees need to be reformed to ensure growth is paying for growth. Learn more
This pandemic has taught us many lessons and highlighted the many inequities that exist. Idaho leads the country in the highest percentage of minimum wage jobs, and too many Idahoans are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. Throughout this pandemic, those workers who are valued the least by society are the ones that have been keeping us afloat--grocery workers, agricultural workers, fast food employees, and so many more. These are Idahoans that have been trying to make ends meet with low paying jobs that had no options to take time off, and no hazard pay. No one should have to work multiple jobs to put food on the table, or to pay rent, and make ends meet on the most basic crucial living expenses. It is time for Idaho to pay Idahoans a living wage.
