Get StartedKentucky is one of only 14 states that doesn't allow for the medical use of cannabis, despite 90% of Kentuckians believing in legalization. Medical cannabis must be authorized to curb the opioid epidemic, provide chronic relief for Kentuckians, and to create an economic boom for our state. Learn more
Kentucky's public education system should be the #1 priority of our state budget, and I believe public dollars belong in our public schools. I oppose any attempt to turn our schools into a for-profit business. Learn more
Make Higher Education More Affordable. Learn more
Kentucky's classrooms are overcrowded, our textbooks are falling apart, and our school infrastructure needs drastic improvements. Kentucky's schools need help. Part of that help is returning state spending on K-12 education to pre-recession levels and finally following the constitutional duty to adequately fund public education. Learn more
Kentucky's children deserve to be fully prepared for Kindergarten. Universal Pre-K would achieve this and provide Kentucky families with the opportunity to work and provide for their children without having to be burdened with the absurd cost of child care. Learn more
Utility companies are out of control. They use their lobbying power in Frankfort to limit green energy use in Kentucky. They saw down our neighborhood greenery with no fear of consequence. It is time the legislature and the Public Service Commission reels in the greed of utility companies. Learn more
The federal government has rated 43% of Kentucky's nursing homes as "below average" or "much below average." A huge part of the issue is understaffing, and our legislature much take action to raise the wages of nurses and nurse aides. Learn more
Since Governor Steve Beshear expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, Kentucky's uninsured rate has dropped by over 60%. We must do everything we can to protect Medicaid expansion despite the countless Republican attempts to throw hundreds of thousands of Kentuckians off of their health insurance. Learn more
End Surprise Medical Billing Four in ten American families have received a medical bill in the last two years that they expected to be covered by their insurance. Kentucky must pass Rep. Stevenson's bill to end surprise medical billing. Learn more
Every day, a Kentucky family has to choose between filling their prescriptions or putting food on the table. In fact, 1 in 4 Kentuckians have forgone prescriptions due to the cost. That is an injustice. No one should have to choose immediate survival over long-term health. By capping the costs of prescription drugs, we can make healthcare more affordable for all. Learn more
Currently, the majority of Kentucky's tax burden rests on the shoulders of the working and middle class. In fact, the top 1% of earners in Kentucky pay the least amount of taxes as a share of their income. Kentucky must rebalance the tax scales and stop favoring the wealthiest among us. The top 1% need to pay their fair share. Learn more
Kentucky is long overdue for an increase in the minimum wage. Kentucky workers deserve to make a living wage, and instituting a $15 an hour minimum wage is the first step to that. After the minimum wage is raised, it should be tied to increase as inflation increases so that Kentuckians can keep their heads above water. Learn more
In order to skirt having to pay employee benefits, many corporations use outside staffing firms or deem their workers as subcontractors. This is a predatory practice that limits worker protections, diminishes the dignity of work, provides substandard pay, and makes it nearly impossible for workers to form a union. This practice must be stopped. Learn more
I stand with Gov. Andy Beshear in the push to increase annual teacher pay by at least $2,000. Teachers are vital in the future of Kentucky. They deserve to be paid a wage that reflects how important they and their work are. Learn more
Kentucky needs laws that will hold employers accountable for injuries and deaths on the job. We have witnessed the detrimental effects to workers when companies cut corners to increase their profits — my own family has been tragically effected by this outrageous behavior by an employer. Companies must be required to provide a safe workplace for their employees and be held accountable when they fail to do so. Learn more
Kentucky women still make, on average, 73 cents for every dollar a man makes, far exceeding the national average. This wage gap is significantly larger for women of color. Legislation must be filed to finally codify that women — all women — deserve to be paid equally for their work. Learn more
