Donna has proudly supported bills that would set a national goal of achieving a 100 percent clean energy economy by 2050 and require the President to develop a plan for the US to meet its commitments under the Paris Climate Accord. She has also backed legislation to protect Florida’s unique environment and ecosystems from spoilage, such as the COAST Anti-Drilling Act which would ban drilling for oil or natural gas off the coast of Florida forever. She supported the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, the High-Speed Gunfire Prevention Act, and the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 Together, these bills would require a background check for every gun sold in America, ban aftermarket modification that can dramatically increase the rate of fire of weapons, and once again ban the sale of military style assault weapons. Donna has worked tirelessly to defend the Affordable Care Act that millions our people across the nation rely on. She has also been a leader in working to end surprise medical billing and curb the tobacco and e-cigarette epidemic affecting America’s young people. She has been especially vocal in supporting the Lower Drug Costs Now Act, landmark legislation that would dramatically lower the cost of prescription drugs for by giving Medicare the the power to negotiate directly with drug companies to bring down prices and make those savings available to hardworking families across America. She voted in favor of the American Dream and Promise Act, a bill that would provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and people with Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Donna has a proven track record of delivering transportation and infrastructure solutions. As a trained urbanist with expertise on state/urban government and finance, she served as treasurer of New York City’s Municipal Assistance Corporation early in her career and helped rescue the city from the brink of bankruptcy.
