Tennessee must permanently suspend its use of capital punishment. A disproportionate number of Black men are put on death row, and Tennessee does not equip its public defenders to handle the scope and number of death penalty cases in the state. Capital punishment is permanent—and I do not believe the state should take away a person’s life. Learn more
We must reform police practices. I support banning choke holds, ending no-knock warrants, creating a national database of police misconduct and excessive force incidents, comprehensive de-escalation training, mandating body cameras, and a commitment to community policing. I support the George Floyd Act proposed by State House Democrats. Learn more
We can only have the best schools in the country if we adequately fund our school districts so that students and teachers can work together successfully in well-equipped, reasonably-sized classrooms. This is why I am opposed to the voucher system that was pushed through the state legislature by our current representative. Building and supporting a successful school system costs money. When public school funds that should be used for student learning, teacher support and building maintenance are instead diverted to private schools through a voucher system, we start to chip away at what makes Williamson County schools so exceptional. That’s why I adamantly oppose vouchers. Our communities and our families can only be their best when we support our local public schools. Public school money must stay in public schools. Learn more

Expanding Medicaid in Tennessee is the first step we need to take to ensure that all Tennesseans have access to affordable healthcare. We are one of only 14 states across the country that have not expanded Medicaid, leaving almost 700,000 Tennesseans without health insurance. Ten percent of Tennesseans are currently uninsured and five percent of Williamson County residents are currently without health insurance. Learn more
