When I was in the legislature, I co-sponsored the Florida Competitive Workforce Act to prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ+ Floridians. We need to continue to advocate for, and strengthen, protections for LGBTQ+ Floridians as well as ensure that people in the community are not discriminated against while seeking and receiving insurance and medical care. Senate District 29 has been deeply affected by Florida’s lack of gun control laws. I have always been a proponent of strengthening gun control laws in Florida and I received an F from the NRA every year I was in office! Mental health is a matter of public safety. This issue is personal and my family has been affected by a broken system. One of my top priorities is to make sure insurance companies cover mental health treatments and that those who are uninsured have access to life-saving mental health resources and treatment. I can confidently say that I have been Florida’s biggest advocate for senior citizens, During my time in the Florida House of Representatives, I represented many senior citizens communities in Palm Beach county. I passed bills to ban senior discrimination and fund transportation options, including Rales Rides. I have fought to lower prescription costs and this will continue to be one of my top priorities.
