In August of 2021, during a special session of the Texas Legislature, I helped pass SB 1, a sweeping election integrity measure. The bill’s tagline was “Easy to vote but hard to cheat” and it contained a long list of reforms. At the conclusion of the bill, Texas had about a dozen different felonies for election or voter fraud. After joining with concerned moms across Texas and fighting against sexually explicit materials in schools at the local level, I filed and passed HB 900, The READER Act. This bill requires book vendors appropriately rate educational resources sold to districts, bans sexually explicit content and provides greater transparency and parental controls for other relevant materials. One of many significant healthcare issues Texans faced prior to the 2021 legislative session was surprise medical bills. When a patient’s hospital and doctor were in-network, he or she could still be hit with outrageous medical bills from other providers engaged in the procedure. In response, I helped pass SB 1264 to end surprise medical bills in Texas. Learn more
Border Security is one of the most pressing issues facing the state. I cast votes each legislative session to increase funding for border security, up from 500 million to over 5 billion to be used to pay for increased National Guard, State Guard, State Troopers, Texas military equipment, building a state border wall and installing floating barriers. These measures curtail the flow of illegal immigrants into our state and give law enforcement more resources to effectively, and safely do their jobs. Learn more
In 2021, I helped pass a constitutional amendment to increase the homestead exemption on public school taxes from 25,000 to 40,000. This greater homestead helped reduce the tax burden on homeowners while keeping school funding whole. Learn more
