Criminal Justice / Public Safety

We need to invest more in rehabilitation and second chances for the millions of imprisoned Americans. I propose we increase funding for solving violent crimes, mandate police officer training in de-escalation, and encourage innovative new models that enable unarmed “police social workers” to resolve non-violent issues like homelessness, mental illness, and the like. Defense / Veterans

All too often, veterans are returning from tours of duty to find that the skills they learned on active duty don’t easily translate into jobs and careers in the private sector, leading many of them to seek employment as members of the public sector, particularly the federal government. Under my administration, major federal investments in helping returning veterans translate their skills into private sector work will bolster the economy by increasing their opportunities for entrepreneurship and quality jobs, thereby leading to increases in small businesses, local spending, and innovation. We owe it to those who sacrifice for our safety to invest in their talent, imagination, and future success. I firmly believe in the power of small businesses and mission-driven founders to make the world a better place, regardless of tax status. Inspiring leaders who make the world a better place start and run for-profit companies, non-profits, and other forms of organization. Small businesses are the lifeblood of the US economy: they create two-thirds of net new jobs and drive U.S. Innovation and competitiveness. Embracing conscious capitalism means acknowledging the history that has left people of color in the U.S. Without equal levels of wealth, education, or opportunity. To build a bright future we must correct for the darkness in our past. That begins by offering reparations to those who have suffered, either directly or through a parent or ancestor, at the hands of systemic oppression. Whether through educational scholarships, financial assistance for starting or improving a business, or financial assistance in buying a home, my administration would seek to extend the promise of the American Dream to millions of people for whom it has always remained out of reach. Environment / Energy

Climate change presents the greatest existential threat our planet has ever known. Its most serious impacts are already being inequitably felt: the most marginalized and least equipped to manage the economic, health, and other disasters attendant with climate change are bearing the brunt. I am committed to a greener world with effective energy policies supporting smart consumer decisions. Biden’s Build Back Better stance on this fails to recognize and respect the importance of business judgement and the will of the people in terms of what vehicles they want to purchase. With effective labeling, financial incentives, and regulatory encouragement, Americans can support the environment without interrupting the free-market principles underpinning conscious capitalism. Foreign Policy

The United States should lead the community of nations towards universal human rights, democratic institutions, free markets, and the rule of law, without trying to become the world’s policeman. Government Reform

I propose we elevate and support pro-democracy reforms like ranked-choice voting, open primaries, public funding of elections and term limits. We also need smart reforms to our campaign finance laws and to stop the revolving door for elected and appointed officials who seek to leverage their time in public service into lobbying jobs when they leave government. We will focus on energizing young people and center-left/center-right problem solvers. These important contributors have become disengaged by our current political system, and don’t support either big government or big business as the way forward. We must invest much more in our young people– students and workers–by dramatically upgrading our education-to-employment system. Guns

I support red flag laws to empower family members and law enforcement to prevent gun violence and gun-related suicides by petitioning a court to temporarily separate someone who may be in crisis from their firearms. I also support implementing a massive buyback program for assault rifles. We must keep guns out of the hands of mentally ill individuals and people convicted of domestic violence. Learn more

The gun industry rakes in approximately 9 billion annually, with large percentages of those revenues coming from semi-automatic weapons that far exceed the original intent of the 2nd amendment. I’ve read that an estimated 393 million civilian-owned firearms exist in the United States. I am pro-liberty in terms of the right of Americans to own handguns for personal protection, rifles for hunting, or other reasonable access, and we should do much more to provide training to gun owners. But with gun ownership comes great responsibility, therefore I am in favor of significant reform in this area. Learn more

Healthcare

We need to upgrade Obamacare and make it work for more middle-class Americans, especially those who own or work for small businesses. In addition, I will propose we implement “Medicare For More”, allowing anyone 50 years old or older the ability to buy into Medicare for the price of a Gold or Silver Obamacare Plan. Learn more

When Medicare Part D was created, it was explicitly agreed that the federal government would not interfere in manufacturer negotiations. Congress revisits the question of drug price negotiation almost every year. I believe the time is now to restructure Medicare so that fair market value and nothing more is what it takes to keep our population healthy. I also believe we should make Medicare available to all Americans over fifty years of age for the price of a Gold or Silver Plan. In addition to helping millions of Americans access better health insurance, this would also save the Federal Government billions of dollars and put our Medicare program on more sustainable, long-term footing. Housing

I am committed to addressing the critical issue of housing affordability. Housing is a fundamental necessity that should be accessible and affordable for all. Americans with good jobs should be able to afford rent, but millions are working multiple jobs while having to allocate the majority of their earnings to housing. Learn more

Immigration

We must simultaneously disincentivize illegal and unsafe activities like human trafficking, under-the-table employment, and other forms of modern enslavement. We want the world’s best and brightest, and we can create a better immigration system that balances America’s talent needs, fairness to individuals who seek to emigrate, and the rule of law. This will require Herculean effort, but I believe it can be done. Learn more

I propose a talent-based immigration system that efficiently welcomes new Americans who pledge to fully embrace our ideals, contribute to our economy, and aspire toward the American Dream. Taxes / Budget

One of the first acts of my Administration will be to establish a bipartisan commission of problem solvers to come up with a clear plan to bring the budget into balance within 5 years time—including solving for the long-term sustainability of Social Security and Medicare—and upgrading our nation's accounting to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
