Get StartedI am a proud ally of the LGBTQ community in this state and was an outspoken opponent of the state’s religious liberty law that effective bans gay families from adoption. Marriage, adoption, insurance, protections against wrongful termination–these are Texan rights without discrimination and I will fight for our equality and fairness in Austin. outdated and discriminatory attempts targeted at the gay community have no place in this district or this state. I support our public schools not voucher programs that undercut our kids’ education and I will fight for increased school funding in Austin. We have a responsibility to protect our environmental future in Texas. That includes strengthening environmental regulations and empowering state regulators to hold corporations and business who contaminate our water, land and air accountable. Dangerous drilling techniques that contaminate water supplies, endanger communities and make land uninhabitable aren’t building a better Texas nor are attempts by the state to override local voters concerned about their community’s environmental future. Green transportation, community parks, smarter use of natural resources in urban environments are some of the ways we can make an environmental investment in this state. Learn more
I support increased background checks, safe storage campaigns, responsible gun ownership, and keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous offenders and mentally ill individuals. A state-wide Gun Surrender policy is needed and I will advocate for one that protects victims from further violence at the hands of domestic abusers.I oppose campus carry legislation that puts both myself and my students at risk, and I oppose marshall programs that place an undue burden on teachers and greater liability on urban school districts. Access to family planning services and affordable and necessary healthcare exams keeps Texas women healthier and will help reduce our teen pregnancy rate and maternal mortality rate. Accessing millions of federal dollars available under the Affordable Care Act will help all Texans and reduce the amount of taxpayer-funded emergency room coverage for routine care. I also support increased funding of mental health services and facilities as well as strong oversight of state-contracted Medicaid service providers. Learn more
Real participation in government starts with fairer maps that ensure every vote counts and every voter counts. It is time to end the practice of partisan gerrymandering that allows representatives to choose their constituents not the other way around.
