As Governor, if any city or town defunds the police, I will work with lawmakers to ensure that community loses its allocation of state-shared revenue. Learn more
We must encourage the next generation to consider a career in law enforcement. That’s why I will encourage Arizona high schools and colleges to make available courses that prepare students for the police academy. Learn more
I will advocate for additional funds for the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ POST), which is responsible for training and certifying every sworn officer in the state. Learn more
In addition to more resources, we will guarantee our law enforcement officers always have qualified immunity. Learn more
That includes investing in more operators, the right technologies to upgrade our 911 services and radios, and providing the funding for other tools – such as drones, body cameras, high-speed pursuit alternatives, less lethal weapons, mental health professionals and body armor – to increase efficiencies and keep officers safe. I support the statewide effort ensure at least 60% of Arizona adults have earned some kind of postsecondary degree or certificate by 2030. Our state is a pioneer in the area of stackable credentials, which allows college and university students to customize their learning experience as they earn badges and certificates – in addition to degrees – in their chosen field. As Governor, I’ll work with our colleges and universities to identify new ways to expand access to stackable credentials so students can more efficiently gain the training and skills they need. I will empower principals with the tools and training needed to have more autonomy over student funding, including hiring, firing, and other essential decision-making in how resources are allocated. Learn more
As Governor, I will introduce a “Civics Education Boot Camp” for Arizona teachers. This program will be held during the summer months and aimed at giving teachers an overview of America’s founding, principles of self-government, constitutionally-protected liberties and the rights and responsibilities that come with citizenship. Learn more
As Governor, my administration will develop a report card for every school to detail their academic performance and other key information for families. Learn more
Currently, Arizona establishes a nine-member “school bus advisory council,” which – just as the name suggests – continues to predominantly focus on traditional yellow buses as the backbone of school transportation. As Governor, I will repeal and replace this group with a “Student Transportation Advisory Council.” Its mission will be to identify the best and most innovative ways to safely get students to and from school – regardless of which school they choose. Learn more
That means ensuring that state funding follows each student, enabling parents to select the education that is the best fit – whether district, charter, private, online, microschool, homeschool or another option not yet imagined. Learn more
Last year, Gov. Ducey and the Legislature launched a $20 million series of Arizona Transportation Modernization Grants to help schools innovate new options for student transport – everything from van-share to carpool to private companies like HopSkipDrive. I also will demand the federal government live up to its obligations as Arizona’s largest landowner by eliminating salt cedar from lands under federal control. Learn more
Anticipating a time of need just like this, generations of leaders who came before us wisely created a system of water banking that allowed Arizona to inject and safely store approximately 12 million acre feet of water deep underground. We now have the ability to begin using some of this supply, though we must be mindful to recharge our water banks when supplies permit. Learn more
Increased cloud seeding across the Arizona high country could be done at low cost and with the potential to create more desperately-needed snowfall and spring runoff, while reducing fire danger. Learn more
