Get StartedNothing should stand in the way of a woman’s rights and her ability to make the decisions that are right for her and her family. This means access to abortion services and the ability to consult with her doctor without the interference of government. PERIOD. Learn more
1. Universal mail-in voting, the way eight other states do to guarantee that everyone has a chance to vote regardless of their circumstances. 2. Publicly financed campaigns have proven a success for Montgomery County positions, and I believe it should expand to all elections in the state. 3. Ranked Choice Voting has also proven successful in numerous states and jurisdictions, and we should move to RCV to make sure the people elected have the support of the majority of the people voting. Making sure capital dollars are used effectively to build new schools, rebuild aged schools, especially those in underserved communities, and providing those schools the best technology that they need to prepare our kids for the future. This includes learning technology for their success and the latest green construction to ensure energy efficiency. Learn more
Fulfilling the promise of the Blueprint by making sure it is fully paid for and working to expand it to other school support services, like mental health professionals, operational staff (cafeteria, transportation, janitorial), and making sure para-professionals get the support they need. Working with the University System of Maryland to make sure that we are preparing more school-based mental health professionals to deal with the ever growing challenges our children are facing. No student should have to wait for a school mental health professional to get to their school from another while they are having a behavioral health crisis. Learn more
Making sure every student has enough to eat so that they can focus on learning and not the rumbling in their bellies, and doing so in such a way that we do not re-enforce the stigma of poverty on children because of no fault of their own. Learn more
I stand strongly behind the legislation we are calling the Climate Solutions Now Act of 2022 to enact once-in-a-lifetime efforts to cut carbon emissions and reduce pollution in the environment, and stand strongly for a State Constitutional Amendment to ensure the environmental rights of all Maryland residents. I am a strong support of keeping weapons out of the hands of those who would use them to harm others, and have proudly voted for a ban on assault weapons and extended magazines and clips, “red flag” laws, and other measures. Learn more
Continue to expand health care coverage to all Marylanders. Both working in the short term to provide lower costs of insurance through the Affordable Care Act and in the long-term, fighting to implement strategies to one day see Universal Healthcare as a right and a reality. Learn more
Support the Development Delayed and Behavioral Health communities through appropriate resources and facilities. No one who needs these services should sit for years on waiting lists or not be afforded the treatment for Substance Use Disorder that they desperately need and ask for. Learn more
Make sure seniors’ healthcare needs are available. I have worked to, and will continue, make sure that resources are available to provide the best possible care for seniors. Working to keep them in their homes and independent for as long as they are wiling and able., by improving home health care and home nursing staffing, and expanding adult medical day care facilities. If a long term care facilities is warranted, I will make sure that we in Maryland have the best in the State with caring, competent staff and facilities that make seniors feel at home. Learn more
Banking on New Technology. Working with my colleagues, we have made Maryland a destination for the technology, bio-tech, and green industries. In the next term, I will double down on this effort to make Maryland the leader in global emerging technology. Learn more
Minding the Procurement Store. As the self-styled procurement geek of the Maryland General Assembly, I have focused on making sure that Maryland’s tax dollars are spent wisely and the procurement system is fair. I will continue to make sure that our procurement dollars are competed fairly and in good faith, that our system provides a fair shake to small, minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses, and that our tax dollars are spent in the most efficient way possible. Protecting workers. While making it a great place to do business, we must also make sure that employees are reaping the benefits as well. That is why I was proud to support an increase to $15 in the minimum wage, implement earned sick leave, and increase the deduction for child care in the State. Moving forward, it is critical that we implement paid family leave and enable the ability for employees to be able to unionize and collectively bargain if they so chose. Learn more
