Get StartedOur current justice system often fails our communities, law enforcement officers, and citizens. Convicted criminals should serve the time they deserve, no more and no less. That is not the justice system we have now. With recidivism rates over 70%, Alabama currently faces a public safety crisis and will benefit from reforms to corrections. In Congress, I will fight for fiscally responsible justice reform based on evidence, not ideology. Learn more
A greater focus on rehabilitation, including education and job training for inmates Learn more
Supporting law enforcement officers, including investment in training, higher pay, and healthcare resources Learn more
Improved mental health resources, so people get the help they need before ending up in prison Learn more
Job assistance upon release Learn more
Reforming our sentencing laws so prosecutors have discretion and are not forced to incarcerate someone for longer than the crime deserves. Learn more
Congress needs to work with physicians and healthcare providers to ensure that those struggling with addiction are helped by our healthcare system, not harmed by it. Alabama has more opioid prescriptions than any other state, and we need help to invest in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Learn more
Expansion of public-private partnerships with local governments and small business to utilize abandoned industrial space Learn more
We need to focus on creating jobs. In Alabama, there is plenty of work to be done on our crumbling roads and bridges, yet unemployment is higher than the national average. Modernizing our infrastructure will lead to immediate job creation and sustained economic growth. Learn more
Giving priority to local companies and workers when awarding contracts Learn more
Expanded access to Pre-K programs Learn more
National prescription database to prevent abuse Learn more
Student loan refinancing reforms Learn more
Additional funding for training of law enforcement and other first responders Learn more
Increased support for drug courts and prevention Learn more
No unfunded mandates Learn more
Attract and reward qualified and dedicated teachers by offering higher salaries and improved benefits Learn more
It’s important that public schools are managed at the local and state level, but Congress must take on more responsibility for funding all levels of our public education system. Learn more
I support the 2nd Amendment, I support gun safety, and I will never infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners. Supporting the 2nd Amendment goes hand in hand with common-sense solutions to reduce gun violence, including suicides. We must keep our communities safe for all people, especially children. Learn more
Ensure convicted stalkers and domestic abusers are prohibited from having guns, whether or not they are married to their victims. The result of the "boyfriend loophole" is that 50 women every month are killed by their current or former partners. Learn more
Ensure that no one on terrorist watch lists are allowed to purchase a weapon of any kind. Learn more
Empower families and law enforcement to step in when someone raises "red flags." Learn more
Support prohibiting the sale of high-capacity magazines, which greatly increase casualties of mass shootings and other gun violence incidents. Learn more
Prevent deregulation of silencers. Learn more
Close the loophole that allows gun sales without proper background checks. This will have no negative effect on law-abiding citizens and will keep guns out of the hands of criminals who are trying to cheat the system. Learn more
Favor transparency and competition without sacrificing safety. Learn more
Make meaningful reforms to our existing healthcare system. Learn more
I will work with anyone -- from either party -- who wants to reduce healthcare costs while improving quality of care and expanding coverage. For too long, Congress has put politics before people and made fiscally irresponsible decisions that leave millions of people without adequate health care. Healthcare is too important to be politicized, especially when Alabama has higher rates of rural hospital closings than almost any other state. Learn more
Require healthcare providers to provide a quote for the price of their services. This will encourage the highest quality care for the lowest cost, spurring innovation and competition between providers without harming the patient. Learn more
Our immigration policies must reflect our American values. Democrats and Republicans agree: we can have safe borders without having to deny Constitutional rights. Seeking asylum is legal. When it comes to prosecuting migrants, a zero-tolerance policy diverts energy and resources away from dangerous threats. Learn more
We should not be spending tax dollars to lock families in detention centers indefinitely, and we should not separate children from their parents. As Republican lawmakers have said, we need more immigration judges so asylum-seekers’ cases are heard. We also must respect the prosecutorial discretion of our immigration judges. In Congress, I will support smart immigration policy based on evidence, not ideology. Learn more
We need to focus on creating jobs. In Alabama, there is plenty of work to be done on our crumbling roads and bridges, yet unemployment is higher than the national average. Modernizing our infrastructure will lead to immediate job creation and sustained economic growth. Learn more
More federal investment in infrastructure projects to take the pressure off of states and local communities Learn more
I will fight to defend Social Security’s long-term stability and keep our promises to future generations. Learn more
I support unions and workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively. When we don’t stand up for workers, we end up with lower wages and poorer working conditions, with higher rates of poverty and work-related deaths. All evidence points to unions making the workplace safer, more efficient, and more competitive. Unions are good for workers and good for the economy. In Congress, I will defend workers’ rights Learn more
