Get StartedI oppose the re-introduction of a bathroom bill. The Texans I know have compassionate hearts as big as Texas, and our leadership in Austin is out of step with the Texans they represent. If the bathroom bill is re-introduced, it would cost the state of Texas over $200 million in negative publiciy $66 million in tourism $8.5 billion in business annually 187,000 jobs Bathroom bills are a complete waste of time that, if put into effect, would be extremely damaging to, not just the trans community, but to the entire state as a whole. Like the Texas Association of Business, I believe Texas should not have adopted “show me your papers” legislation. Public safety is undermined, not enhanced, when minority communities fear cooperating with local authorities. Learn more
Equality. A simple word with a powerful meaning: everyone is treated the same regardless of race, religion, color, creed and sexual orientation. I had to fight for my equality, and now I am ready to fight for everyone who still does not have theirs in the Texas Senate. Learn more
I will be a Senator who supports our public school system, builds the infrastructure our future demands, supports the growth of good jobs, ensures affordable college education, and works for a Texas we can all believe in. Learn more
I will fight for a state education budget that pays a fair and equitable share of education costs, because it is the right thing to do and because it will be my constitutional duty as a Texas legislator to do so. 2. I will oppose voucher systems as they would divert revenue from our public schools, which legislators have a constitutional duty to support, and, send it to for-profit private institutions, which legislators have no constitutional duty to support. Learn more
Texas’ water problems are not over, despite the plentiful rain recently in North Texas, and this issue must be addressed by the Texas legislature Learn more
I believe the rainy day fund should be tapped for some of these projects that are now threatened, especially in high traffic urban areas where both residents and businesses will benefit. And local communities should be given the option of determining whether to utilize more toll roads or managed lanes to fund needed projects in those communities Learn more
Texas’ wind power could generate approximately 27% of Texas’ electrical needs by 2020 and 37.8% by 2030, producing electricity for approximately 13 million homes Learn more
The TWDB must continue to provide low-cost financing options to local water projects and assist in helping expedite those projects, while being conscious of the personal, economic, and environmental impact of those projects Learn more
Along with regional water authorities, it must also encourage greater water conservation and develop plans for making water available to drought-stricken areas when needed. Learn more
Texas should be encouraging our citizens to vote, not adding barriers. Rather than spending state money defending Voter ID restrictions that continue to be struck down by courts, we should eliminate many of those restrictions and ask the Texas Secretary of State to study ways to boost voter turnout (a provision that was originally included in the Texas House legislation this past session but was eliminated by the Texas Senate). Another option to reduce the costs of insurance on the ACA individual market would be to introduce a re-insurance program for insurers. Learn more
If I am sent to Austin, we will push for Texas to make healthcare a human right. My first act of healthcare business will be pushing for Texas to expand Medicaid. Learn more
Healthcare is a human right state lawmakers are denying our fellow Texans by not expanding Medicaid. Learn more
I believe Texas should not have adopted “show me your papers” legislation Learn more
We need to continue to encourage the production of wind energy and other renewable energy sources, which, aside from reducing dependence on fossil fuels and the emissions of greenhouse gasses, will increase Texas jobs, provide lease revenue to landlowers, and increase property tax revenue in areas of the state that could use that revenue. We should encourage infrastructure projects with the potential to connect the wide spaces of Texas, to pay good wages, and to stretch our transportation dollars, like several proposed privately-financed high-speed rail projects Learn more
