Education

I’m the son of a public school teacher and the product of a public school education. I will fight to invest more in education at every level, so our children have every opportunity to succeed. I support investing in pre-K programs that make sure kids start school prepared, and after-school and summer programs that are critical for parents who are working long hours. I will also push for more vocational training to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed, not just those who are college bound. Learn more

Environment / Energy

Like many others, I am still working to repair the damage to my home after Hurricane Florence. Unchecked climate change is more than just an environmental problem, it's a national security risk. The military has already accepted this fact and is working to address climate change head-on. In Congress, I will fight to make sure that climate change is treated as the crisis it is and that Congress is doing everything it can to help us be better prepared for future disasters. Learn more

I was the only candidate to come out on the first day of my campaign to oppose offshore drilling and seismic testing. Drilling for oil or event testing for oil can be devastating — we must protect the beautiful beaches and coastline of coastal Carolina and never drill offshore. Learn more

Government Reform

Voter suppression and gerrymandered districts hurt our democracy and prevent full participation. In Congress, I will work to protect every North Carolinian’s right to vote, and advocate for a fair and non-partisan redistricting process. Learn more

Corporate special interests have too much influence in our political process. We need a government that puts people first, is more transparent and inclusive, and doesn’t prioritize profits over people. That’s why I won’t be taking a dime of corporate PAC money, because the voters of Eastern Carolina deserve a Representative who will always put them first. Learn more

Healthcare

I’ll fight for both affordable and accessible health care and for the expansion of rural health care access. My grandson was born with cerebral palsy, but fortunately, because my family had access to military health care, my grandson received early intervention treatment. And, instead of going bankrupt, my family got great health care and my grandson is as happy, fun loving and rambunctious as any four-year-old kid you’d meet today. Learn more

I know how important it is to protect seniors and make sure they have access to affordable health care. I’ll fight to lower the cost of prescription drugs and oppose any health care plan that ends protections for people with pre-existing conditions or allows health insurance companies to charge our seniors thousands of dollars more for coverage. That is why I oppose any efforts to slash Medicare and will fight to make sure seniors get the benefits they have earned. Learn more

Taxes / Budget

The tax plan passed in Washington was a giveaway to wealthy campaign donors and corporations at the expense of middle-class families. Nearly all the benefits go to the richest 1%. I will work to reverse these expensive giveaways to provide real tax relief for middle-class and working families in North Carolina. Learn more
