Get StartedEquality means being equal in rights, access, and status. Georgia must protect marriage rights and access to adoption for the LGBTQ+ community, pass hate crimes legislation to protect all marginalized people, and expand The Georgia Fair Employment Practices Act (GA Code Sec. 45-19-20 et seq.) to encompass anti-discrimination rules. I applaud previous Governor, Nathan Deal’s, aggressive and compassionate criminal justice reform efforts, which have brought some balance to the historical racial inequality of Georgia’s justice system, and expanded treatment programs for nonviolent offenders. However, we still have much more to do and we must improve oversight of our detention centers. Learn more
Our funding gap between high-poverty areas and low-poverty ranks Georgia 15th in the nation, highlighting significant inequality in our public education system. The Fiscal Year 2021 Budget attempts to address these issues; however, it makes significant cuts to Career, Technical and Agricultural Education, and Technology (CTAE) programs as well as the dual enrollment program. Georgia’s lawmakers also continue to attempt to erode local school board control while funneling increasing amounts of public school funding to private entities. Learn more

We must continue to support and fund these programs, as well as improving our commitment to reducing air pollution and significantly increasing our use of eco-friendly power sources while reducing our reliance on outdated technology. All community planning in Georgia should be done with protecting the beauty and natural resources that make Georgia special. Learn more

The Department of Energy leads on this issue and has provided the groundwork for state and local governments to work toward Environmental Justice in planning, community engagement, and resources. Our already weak healthcare system is being strained under the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the cost of treatment is putting a heavy strain on household budgets, even as Georgians lose employer-provided health insurance (and their jobs). It is beyond time to expand Medicaid for as many Georgians as possible, without waiver restrictions. Doing so will protect the most vulnerable and help strengthen and rebuild Georgia’s healthcare delivery system. Learn more
